About the Bigfork Summer Playhouse
The Bigfork Summer Playhouse was founded in 1960 by Dr. Firman ‘Bo’ Brown and his wife Margery Hunter Brown as a place for University of Montana theatre students to perform in the summer. In 1964, Brown hired Don Thomson as a technician and the following season, Don encouraged Jude (Judy) Irvin to join the BSP crew as the piano player. Don and Jude were married in the fall of 1965 and later acquired the theatre in 1968. While both of Don and Jude’s sons earned degrees in the entertainment business and have worked at BSP in past summers, the eldest, Brach, joined Don and Jude as one of the owners and producers of the Bigfork Summer Playhouse in 2001. Are you ready to party for a cause? Come on out to the Snowline Acres for the Big Event – Casino Royal – on May 12, 2022, from 5-10pm, to support Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwest Montana. The evening will include a prime rib dinner, drinks, games, auctions and more. “Stand with us and be part of a program raising money to provide mentors to children facing adversity in our community.”
Community Based Program
This is the “traditional” BBBS model in which a mentor (Big) and a mentee (Little) meet 2-3 hours each week outside of the home and school setting. Our Bigs make arrangements with the parent(s)/guardian(s) for a weekly activities with the Little. These outings can be as simple as a walk to the park to throw a frisbee or a trip to the local art studio to paint together. We know that the specific activity is not important, what is important is consistency, kindness, and a desire to grow together.
School – Based Program
Site-Based Programs: Our School Buddies program is designed to allow mentors to meet an elementary student at their school during normal school hours. Bigs meet their Littles for one hour each week, often during lunch and/or recess, for activities such as shooting hoops on the school playground or visiting the school library for board games. High School students are eligible to serve as mentors in this program
Our Site-Based Plus: is the same program as our School Buddies, an hour a week together at the Little’s school, with the addition of an opportunity to meet off school campus one time each month for an activity in the community. We see this is our best of both worlds program.

On Saturday, April 30 and Sunday May 1, 2022, the Spring Festival Mozart Requiem And Mahler is coming to the Flathead High School Performance Hall. This year is Maestro Zoltek’s 25th year as the music director and conductor and each year is even better than the last.
Spring Festival Mozart Requiem and Mahler Details
On the program is Mozart’s “Requiem”, an iconic piece surrounded by folklore. Anyone who has seen the play or movie “Amadeus” knows that the piece was commissioned by a mysterious stranger in a grey cloak a few months before the composer’s death. Fantasy has it that the stranger was Mozart’s “rival” Salieri and that the composer was poisoned or that Death himself commissioned the work knowing that he was coming for Mozart soon. The truth is that the piece was commissioned by a man who had a habit of doing so anonymously so that he could claim the work as his own and that in this case it was to commemorate his deceased wife. Because Mozart died at about 1 a.m. on December 5th when he had completed only the first two movements of the work, it was finished by one of his pupils so that his widow Constanze would be paid. But then again, on the day he died Mozart said, “Didn’t I say before that I was writing this Requiem for myself?” And, according to one eyewitness account, “his last movement was an attempt to express with his mouth the drum passages in the Requiem.” So who knows the truth? Except that it is one of the most transcendent choral works ever written. And you have the rare opportunity to hear it performed LIVE by the Glacier Symphony and Chorale with spectacular guest soloists! Don’t miss out on Spring Festival Mozart Requiem Mahler 2022!
Get your Spring Festival Mozart Requiem Mahler tickets – HERE.
